Dental Mound...that portion of the skull that holds your teeth.

It's the part of the carving where the mouth goes. It's call a dental mound because it formed by the structure of the teeth.

I thought it was the mound of money the dentist charged you for his services.

bob k is right it is where the mouth goes the "dental mound" or " mouth mound" is formed by creating a mound under the nose the high point being the center line of the nose. when veiwed from the side you should be able to see that the mouth curves around the face, remember the face is at 45 degree angles on each side of the nose, so you want the mouth to curve around the face, in other words you dont want the mouth area to be flat across so when you look from the side the mouth is not seen, also if you look in the mirror and place your finger in the center of you mouth and follow your mouth around to the corner you will see the mouth curves.

hope this helps and did not confuse you

BART has given an Excellent Description of a mouth mound or dental mound or dental curve. To carve a face or any other part of any carving it is essential that the carver carves the "basic form" before ever attempting to carve "details" The mouth mound is the proper form or foundation into which to carve the detail of the mouth. Happy Carving, Don

Oscar and bzcarvn.... A mound of chewing tobacco fits in the dental mound on the pitcher's mound which adds up to a whole mound of money! Ha! Ha!

I have carved mostly faces with mustache and beard. So "dental mount" never seems so important. I recently decided to try some teeth and a mouth without beard and stash. You really do need to understand what is in the mouth of the face you want to carve. It's like understanding there's an eyeball in the eye socket and you have to appreciate that before carving an eye that looks good.
