Default Demon Door Knocker

This is supposed to be a door knocker type of carving but I thought I'd try carving this demon or gargoyle into some raw basswood which is around 3 feet high. This is quite a change from my typical carvings but I needed to stretch my imagination a little. Not sure who this would appeal too as I had no one in mind when I started carving it. Well back to my regular carving.

Patrick, way to go, I like it! You carved this using a very vivid imagination and creativity. Hey, we all should push ourselves to brake new ground. We maynot stay on that new ground, but we took a chance and tried something new. Good for you!

i like that :-) nice play of fantasy, and nice to see you applying what you learned on "real" faces. works great... is the tongue supposed to be used for knocking ?

Thanks Kathy and Doris. Doris, there are other components to the knocker that I didn't incorporate into the carving. I was reviewing some patterns I have of Susan Irish's and got inspired to try carving a ghoulish type of knocker. You won't find this picture amongst her patterns but there are elements of the carving there.

Well done Patrick, that's an interesting knocker. Probably scare the Bejesus out of the kids on Halloween when they come trick'or'treating!

Great detail, finish and imagination.

Very well executed. If you put that design on your front door, you wouldn't be bothered by trick-or-treaters. I'll bet it appeals to KISS fans. Gene Simmons might come after you with some kind of copyright infringement. Mike

Just want to add my appreciation to the list of admirerers. Great door knocker. I am curious how it will mount and be functional, or is this just a large version of what could have been a door knocker? If it's 3 feet long, I may have answered my own question. How big is your door?

Hello Thor,

No it won't be going on any door. The patterns that I looked over to come to this type of carving were door knocker patterns. This was something I thought about carvings so I did it on a log to see what it would look like. Can you imagine meeting this face on someone's door! If anyone likes their privacy, perhaps it might be appropriate.
Patrick

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.
