Default Demon

Going through my dark period again. This is my third demon if you include the gargolye. He's got a nasty underbite and is in ill humor. The log is around 2.5 feet...out of large logs, and the wood is white birch. I experimented with a number of acylic washes and he's sealed with linseed oil and watco satin sealer and dark satin wax.

Hi Patrick,

When you look past the demonic glare, you've done a great job. The features are even, the detail very nice.

Patrick - Really excellent carving. Hope you don't keep this guy in your bedroom when you go to sleep at night!

When I look at your carving, I'm trying to learn what it is you did to make him evil looking. What I see are:

1. The extra lines in his cheek areas that stretch his face into a scowl.
2. The eyebrows that slant down toward the bridge of his nose.
3. The frown lines in his forehead that slant down toward the bridge of his nose.
4. The very small pupil in his eye.
5. Obviously, the shape of his mouth.

Excellent nose and overall 3D quality to the face. Very successful effort on your part IMHO!

Dan C.
