has anyone bought or used knives from these guys. Pinewood forge has a really long wait. I would like a rough out knife and a hook knife. They look nice, but you never know. Any suggestions or help would be great. Thanks http://www.deepwoodsventures.com Last edited by woodchipandy; 10-25-2011 at 11:57 AM. Reason: to post a link |

Andy, I have purchased 4 blades from Paul Jones (DeepWoods Ventures), and mounted them in handles of my own making. They are great blades and are somewhat thicker in the spline, as such have no flex, but they are very well made and come ready to carve with maybe just a little honing (I always hone new blades just to be sure all of the wire edge has been removed). I have the Drapper Detailer, the butterknife, the Scapel, and a standard detail blade. No experience with hook knives at all. The Deepwoods blades are a perfect compliment to the Lee Ferguson blades I bought last year and mounted in my own handles. Those do have a little flex to them. I have and use other knives, but the Jones (forged from 1095 drill rod) and the Fergusons (A-2 steel) are the ones I reach for most often. L.P.

I have two of Paul's knives and like them. I agree with everything LP had to state about them. Safe carving. Paul

I have four knifes that I made with his blades, I can only say they are outstanding....so I order five more, to make some more knives.

Andy, I actually just ordered a couple of knives from Deepwoods Ventures. They came in today and they look very well made. I got a general carving knife and a spoon (hook) knife. They are very sharp and the handles fit my hand pretty well. I may have to sand the tip of the handle on the general carving knife down a bit though. It has a point that looks like it might dig into my hand while carving. I won't get a chance to use them until the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes. As a side note... I also found that they have great customer service. I had a few concerns that I sent an email about and Paul Jones was quick to respond and was very polite and helpful. |

They certainly look nice, and the price is well in line with other custom knife makers. AJC
