So after using saw, files, dremel tool... There is a lot of dusts, chips around my room... I dont have problem with ones that are one the table I can vacuum them right away but my concern is the ones that are in the air. They settle down EVERYWHERE in my room after few hours and it's a pain to clean them up...Does anyone has good solution to this? How do you deal with all the messy dust and chips? Oh and I carve in my room cause I live in a small apartment.. Kinda wish I had an extra room just for work space.. |

get a shopvac or a good vaccuum cleaner and try to vaccuum the dremel's dust as you make it. you aint using electric saws or any other powertool indoor don't you? Also, be carefull with wood dust. Dust from some species is toxic. TOXIC WOODS CHART

tape a house aitr filter onto an old box fan and run it when you are working. It will take care of a lot of the dust. Dan |

| There are a lot of ideas in search under “dust collection.” You may find one that will fit your needs. If you have a regular fan you can place it in a box pulling the air away from you and cut a hole in the back putting an air conditioning filter over the hole. The first one I made was a squirrel cage fan out of an old air unit I got a junk yard. Made a wooden box and made it so one end was covered by a house air filter.

Dust collection systems have been a never ending battle with me,I guess with the last ten years,I have invest a lot of money in dust collector and no matter what system I have been using there has always been dust residue all over my shop. Knowing this I also use a dust mask, knowing where else those fine invisible particles of dust can settle in my lungs. Oscar |

I don't sand indoors in the winter. The fine dust gets into the warm air stream from my wood pellet stove and that goes up the stairwell and ALL over the house. For the bigger stuff, you need a cat to roll in the shavings on the bench and then track it all over the place. |

Occasionally when it is cool out I will suspend a box fan from my curtain rod and set it on high. Then I wander around the room with a mop type duster and the shop vac on 'blow' and activate the dust that is laying on surfaces, corners and what not. I do this for a good long time to re activate any of the dust that has settled again. I wear a mask when I do this. I'm not really concerned about appearances since my living room is given over to carving anyway, but I like the idea of an occasional decontamination run. |

My advice, stick to hand carving, You can get your self sick from all that dust
