Default Dayton, Ohio Show, Nov. 8 and 9

The Dayton "Artistry in Wood" November 8 and 9 is held in the Dayton Airport Exposition Center at the corner of N. Dixie and McCauley. Take Exit 64 off of Interstate 75, go west on Northwoods Blvd., turn right onto N. Dixie and then turn left onto McCauley. There will be over 200 wood carvers from all over the country showing their carvings and entering the competition. go to the web site Dayton Carvers - Dayton Carvers Guild Artistry In Wood for more information and map. This is a premier show so come early, stay late and come the second day to see what you missed the first day. Lynn Doughty, Roger Stauthman, Jim Ohara, Rick Jensen and I will be there, so come by and say "Howdy."

I'll be nosing around one of the days...not sure which. Did anyone have luck finding a vendor list?

Also, being new to carving, I want to pick up some tools, but I have no idea what I might want. Suggestions? I am thinking a detail knife (all I have is Little Shaver's kit). Maybe some stropping stuff, some wood, and a few roughouts.

Anything else you would suggest a beginner have?

MichelleOH, there are to be about 20 vendors there like Woodcraft Shop from Bettendorf, IA, Dick and Barb Belcher (tools and carving supplies), Dave Lyons Knives, Dunkel Knives, Moore's Roughouts, Heineke Wood Supplier, Knightstown wood supplier, Bruce Nickolas (chip carving supplies) and many more to choose from, and they will we ready to help you, answer your questions and sell you what you need or even want. It is like going to a candy store, so come and have fun. Don

Oh my..... Michelle if the Woodcraft shop will be there you will be in heaven. I dropped way to much money at the omaha show between them and Moores Rough Outs. If you are interested in detail knives, check out the knives by Denny. Especially the 3/4 and the 1 inch detail knives and they come in both large handle ( I love those) and the small handle versions. I am really sold on Denny tools and Big Dog will have them all there.

I will be there. I was there last year and it was great. I plan on spending all of Saturday there. I enjoy seeing all the carvers and vedors.
