Default David Maggard

Has anyone heard of a carver named David Maggard? The reason I ask is that someone mentioned it to me at a recent carving meeting that he has a video out called 'Carving Wood Spirit Hiking Sticks'. Being the Carving clubs procurement person I thought I would ask here and see if anyone has heard of him before we purchased the video. Any comments would greatly be appreciated. I myself have never heard of him but then again there are so many great carvers out there it is hard to keep up with them all.

makenchips,
I've heard of him, but don't know anything about the video. He is friends with Lee, the master carver at Dollywood, and has been carving for some time. He is from the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg area of Tennessee, I believe.

Makenchips,
Sure have heard of Dave in fact I talk to him on line from time to time. Dave is a fabulous carver especially woodspirits but then I am partial to woodspirits but he carves other things as well here is the link to his web site you will see that we are linked to each others web sites. I didnt know he had a video out on carving woodspirit hiking sticks but after I will visit his web page and check it out. He is like me never updates his web page so it may not be there. My opinion for what it is worth Dave is an excellent carver an if he has a video out I would safely say it would be excellent.

Colin, Thanks for the information. I called the person who told me about this video and they said that they seen it in Wood Carvers Supply Inc. catalog that they just received. I will have to look into it. By the way what was the link to his site? You stated that you had him linked to your site but I did not see that either. I would be very interested in seeing his work. Thanks for the reply.

I purchased two video tapes of Dave Maggard one for hiking stick and Carving WoodSpirits with Mallet Tools at Woodcarvers Supply. They are both very good instructional tapes.

I have his tape, and recommend it highly. He makes carving look easy, and if you follow his instrutions, it is. It helped me learn how to do faces in general. I do mostly Santa's and caricature. Good luck and have fun.
It is available from Wood Carvers Supply, and he lists tools needed.
