Default Daddy's Pride Trawl Boat

This is a South Louisiana shrimp boat. I started carving in 1999 and set there unfinished for ten years.
Daddy’ s Pride has survived three hurricanes, Katarina, Rita and Ike. Hurricane Ike did the damage, the rigging was broken and sat in the garage for several weeks with 3 ft of water.
THE hull is carved from a solid piece of tupelo the rigging is made from dowels the tires ,wheels from hobby shop center drilled out and carved to look like used tires. The nets are from a wrapping from a frozen turkey breast sprayed black. All the other parts carve d from tupelo.
The finish is acrylic paints and semi gloss spray varnish. The base is drift wood type unknown, finished with several coats of Cabot’s Spars Varnish. Size 20 inch. long and 22 inch. high.
The deck hand is a Saints fan so he always has his favorite T- shirt on. This is my first attempt to carve figures, so he is very primitive. I might carve a second deckhand later for LSU.
Thanks to everyone here who gave me great suggestion for the trawl nets.

Bill,

Good Job!! I'd say you nailed it pretty good. I worked on my uncle's boat as a teenager coming up so I can say that with a degree of familiarity. The onion sack came pretty close to the right dimensions. I like the outriggers you made. Looks really good.

Bill V,

Really nice job. We don't get to see too many boats like that here in Central Indiana. Thanks for sharing.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark
