| | Cypress Dragon Hi!
Here's the dragon I carved for my Grandson! I never found a picture to go by until I had it nearly carved, Christmas wasn't waiting for me! So this was just lurking in the recesses of my mind I guess. Maybe I need a brighter light bulb in there! I didn't plan on painting it, but I did the flames and then I couldn't stop!

| | Re: Cypress Dragon OHHHH! I want one of those! See me throwing myself down of the grocery stores floor, right in the middle of the cereal isle, stomping my feet, beating my hands, and screaming at the top of my lungs until I get what I want ... and I want one of those right now!
Thanks for sharing You just added another "I have got to carve me one of those" to my list .... it's all your fault for creating a Must DO! Susan |

| | Re: Cypress Dragon That feels like High flattery! I'm nearly embarrassed! Thank you very much! I hope you saw the new pictures. I'm still not done inside the bowl, but my sense of urgency is gone, waiting to see what Mother Nature does with the wood!
I used a King Arthur Lancelot on an angle grinder for most of the shaping, and then gouges and chisels from there.
Thanks again!

| | Re: Cypress Dragon Wade, you deserve it! The bread dough bowl is beautiful and destined to become some family's heirloom.
But (Behold the Ultimate Truth), that purple fire breathing dragon is the greatest example of using the wood to inspire the carving that I have EVER seen. It just blew me away!

| | Re: Cypress Dragon Smiling while I'm writing this.....The paint really finishes it well. What a great idea. I truly enjoyed seeing that. The flames turned out so "flamey".
Great job. Terrific dragon!

| | Re: Cypress Dragon Great effect in a true "dragon's breath" and that's about the best capture of fire that I've seen in a dragon. I never have quite figured out how to do just that but now I've got a better idea for my own 2nd dragon attempt. Imagaine that same dragon boasting atop a walking stick!! Holy Cow! Thanks for another idea!
I once met a fellow while hiking on the Appalachian Trail and his trail name was "Dragon Breath" but I'll spare you the details of the why... and it had nothing to do with fire! |
