Has any one ever carved Crab apple? I just cut a bunch down for some landscaping, and didn't want it to go to waste. Alex |

Like most fruitwood it is hard and gets harder as it ages. If you want to carve it try to do it when its green.

I agree with Paul - very hard wood once it's dry. Turns a beautiful shade of brown once the wood is dry and exposed to air. Claude |

I've used crabapple and apple for my needles. They look very similar though crabapple tends to have a little less heart wood so you get reddish brown and cream streaks in the larger pieces.
