Default Cottonwood Sleeper

Here is an other piece of cottonwood bark I found along the Yellowstone River.I tried some mink oil shoe polish to keep it from turning dark.I am going to try the Henery's feed wax on the next on advice from board members.Anyway, let me know what you think or any ideas you might have.
Thanks Davy

You've got some Egyptian, Peruvian, sort of Native thing going on there - very unique. I can see the appeal of closing the eyes as it changes the whole persona of the carving. Not sure what I can tell you about sealing the wood to prevent it from darkening. I use a Deft or Mini wax sealer to keep the elements from oxinating the wood fibres. Great carving.

I just want to say I really like the texture of this bark.I like taking on larger projects like Patrick does but until I can make a run to the Bear Tooth mts, real soon I will be carving bark.I want to take on a native american character for my next project. The Crow Indian is what I will be reserching for for Ideas.I do miss carving my mt laurel walking sticks but this cottonwood bark is so much softer. With my new job I have not been able to carve much and do not have a heated garage like in N.Carolina.I do have some portable heaters so I hope I can carve in my new garage and keep posting some new projects this winter.(oh, by the way,my garage was heated by a wood stove which made it very comfortable to carve). I will quit rambling on and thank you all for your comments and advice.
