| | Re: cottonwood root Hi John. If you go to my picturetrail site and look in the "items for sale" album you will find a good photo of some cottonwood root. It is traditionally used to carve the southwest indian Kachina dolls but is sometimes used for other carvings as well.

| | Re: cottonwood root Hi Cliff - thanks for the compliment. Right now I am working on a couple of realistic fish carvings. They are in the painting stage which is most challenging for me. One was begun in a class with Clark Schreibeis but we did not finish the painting and it will be another 2-3 weeks before we can get back together to finish it. The other I will try to take to that point, at least, on my own. These are brown trout which are tough to paint. Also, I find that I have to bail out of the air brush for details a lot sooner than Clark - too hard to get an irregular rust spot inside of a small white donut (hard enough) and then a dark spot in the center of that! I like the airbrush for some blending but trying details with it is too risky - finicky things those airbrushes are! I've also started a rainbow trout that I can work on as time permits. As these get done I will post photos on my picturetrail site and post a note here for those interested.
