Question Copywriting a carved work?

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has copywritten a carved piece to reproduce and sell?
How do you go about it?
Thanks
Doug

Using the Forum search feature on "copyright", I came up with some hits. Here are a few hits that I thought relevant and have covered this topic in the past. Hope it helps.

Default Re: Copywriting a carved work? How and how much

Thanks for the info Bob.

Good reading, but not what I was looking for.
What I would like to know is not the ethical part of it, more the how and how much $ to do it?

Thanks
Doug

Upon the completion of a piece of visual art, the artist automatically owns copyright; nothing is required to “copyright” it – it is yours automatically by virtue of being the one who created the work (assuming that everything about it, the design, etc, are your original creation). You can register copyright as an extra measure but it isn't required; again, you already hold the copyright as soon as you complete the work. But, should there ever be a problem regarding infringement (a court hearing, etc.) it is much easier if you do have a "registered" copyright at the Library of Congress. Again, it's not necessary, but it makes it a much faster "open and shut" case for you.

On the copyright gov. sight you can download and print out the forms, use the one for 3D pieces. The last time I copyrighted I think it was $30.00 the great thing about this is that unless you have offered it for sale already you can bundle a bunch of carvings together on one form and call it a collection for one price. You will need to take photos from all sides of the piece, title them and attach them to the form. It is well worth the price to protect yourself because you have an official date of creation. hope this helps!
