Default Compressor noise fix

I need a way to quiet down my compressor. Its in the corner of the garage and when its running you can hear it all over the neighborhood. Its an upright design with the motor on top of the tank. Its the loud type.

Any ideas of a sound deadening box I could build around it that would also allow it to stay cool and filter the air coming in?
I tried styrofoam box and that didnt help at all or maybe just a little.

Check to see if there is an exhaust muffler/manifold that can be changed out.

Maybe frame in the surrounding area and then install open faced fiberglass insulation, underneath open mesh or "chicken wire" as a sound attenuator. Use plywood subflooring or thick drywall for outside walls.

Just leave plenty of room for air circulation and service/ maintenance.

Thanks Peter,
I was hoping there was a special method of constructing a sound barrier that I could use to build a box to house this loud thing.

So far I have come up with plywood covered by drywall covered by fiberglass insulation.

Any miracle substances out there?

1) Real Acoustic Foam panels like those used in sound labs, indoor shooting ranges, and radio stations, but they are BIG $$$$.

Maybe some of those comfort sleep type (cheap egg carton looking type) foam bed liners from a chain-mart of dollar general type store.

The more uneven, rougher the surface, or irregular the texture, the better the sound waves are broken up, or distorted from what I have been told.

Hope this helps
