| | completed native carving (Jeff Phares Seminar) Hi Gang,
I am back, have been really busy with commissions and then had the distinct privilage of taking a three day seminar with Jeff Phares in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. All I can say is 'UNBELIEVABLE' . I was really humbled I thought I was an pretty good carver until I took his seminar. The man is to me the Wayne Gretsky of woodcarving. I never realized how much I didnt know until now. I would highly recommend if you have the chance to take a course with Jeff you wont be sorry you did. This is the first time in six years he has been to Canada although he is planning to come back next year and you can be sure I will be there. I have posted a picture of my completed carving on www.picturetrail.com in the native carving album if you are interested in what can be accomplished in a three day seminar with Jeff. For those who are new and want to check out some of the other work of the carvers on this thread the log in is carvers-r-us and the password is carve.

| | Re: completed native carving (Jeff Phares Seminar) Colin, he's fantastic!! I am so jealous, like Teri, I've never had any classes and my 'dream' ones to take would be with him or Desiree Hajny, I love their work!
Congratulations, look like you were a very good student, can't wait to see how you put your new skills to work in your already great wood spirits! Callynne |

| | | Re: completed native carving (Jeff Phares Seminar) Colin: An excellant job and a very nice piece to have displayed on a mantle. I'm following his book (Jeff Phares) right now and hoping to carve a Native American on a nice chunk of cottonwood bark that I have set asside. Would love to schedule in a seminar some day, I believe they are wel worth the costs,...'education & training' is a never ending process. Again, you've carved a great piece. | | Re: completed native carving (Jeff Phares Seminar) I think I have mentioned before how great I think his books are. I have read almost all of the major authors and his was unique at being able to get into my thick skull. His techniques simplified the process for me and I highly recommend them. Of course, a seminar is preferred.
Where does Jeff normally conduct his classes? |

woodenleg,
Jeff conducts about 18 seminars a year he was telling me but they are getting less and less because of his busy schedule. He is now doing work in bronze as well as planning another book. If you do a search under Jeff Phares it will tell you the seminars that he has planned across the US I believe.

Make sure you mention if Jeff Phares is in the area again. I'm not too far away from you.
Nice work,
Chris.

I hope to be able to take a class one of these years, so far I'm just self-teached.
(Have to wait till kids are grown to be able to afford it! LOL)
It must be a real thrill to learn from someone as talented as Jeff Phares. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
