| | Commission Agreement Attahced is a copy of a Commission Agreement that I use. It is offered for the purpose of suggestion only and not meant as a legal document or in substitution to having worked with an attorney nor is it offered as free legal advice.
If you are ready to accept commission work having a written agreement is a benefit to everyone involved. Creating such an agreement works out the questions and problems that can arise during the work in advance. Because some commissions can be worth many thousands of dollars to you and your studio, it is wise to consult an attorney before any contracts are signed.
I have asked the forum moderator for permission to post this but this document is in no way associated with the WCI forum or Fox Chapel Publishing.
It is suggested that you save a copy directly to your hard drive.

| | Re: Commission Agreement Thanks As my wife and I are slowly starting a folkart businness things like this are helpful. My wife has been asked to paint murals on the interiors of some expensive homes. Shes very nervous about it. I have an agreement that I have students sign when I teach carving classes. I have to admit I am a little nervous with 9 to 12 people with surgicaly sharp knives and a piece of wood in thier hands for the first time.

| | Re: Commission Agreement Susan's "Commissioning Agreement" itself is a work of art. I have been studying it since she kindly sent me one and the more I read it, the more impressed in it I am. The document give you some ideas that I certainly wouldn't have thought of and would certainly save some confusion and dissapointment or misunderstandings. Well thought out and well written. Thank you for sharing it my friend. It may still come in quite handy, me thinks.

| | Re: Commission Agreement Hi Goody, Hi Bob!
That is something I picked up years ago - I am not the author!!! I simply am the one that happened to have a copy of it to share.
Glad you like it and hope that it may come in handy some day! Have I mentioned yet on this forum that I am descended from a long line of two legged Pack Rats? This is one of those little goodies that I came across many years ago and stashed away in my "May Need One Day" file. I have a couple of others but this one just goes over so many points that I never would have thought about on my own. Even if you don't end up signing a contract it's good to know what to discuss in advance.
I am a real believer in the idea that Good Fences Make Good Neighbors. Good Fences don't bar others from coming onto your property nor are they meant to keep you locked in. A Good Fence just clearly establishes what is yours and what is theirs so the number of property line disputes becomes minimual! When you don't have to spend time arguing about where the property line is you get to spend that time saying "Come on over for a cup of coffee".
Goody, I would be interested in seeing your Class/Student Release!
