Default cleaning palm for tiki

I've carved some tiki statues out of mexican fan palms, in addition to other types of palms and trees. It seems that cleaning the fronds off of the trunk is sometimes the largest part of the project. It usually involves a lot of pulling, tearing, cutting and waiting for things to dry out. Does anyone have an easier way to clean the fronds off of a palm tree (other than waiting years for it to happen on its own)?

Those are neat looking TiKi's, Gil! But I'm sorry...can't help ya out a bit with carving those palm trees......never carved a palm before. I have run a gouge INTO my palm a few times, but that won't do you an good. Come to think of it, it didn't do me any good either!
