Default Christ

I carved this in less than 4 hours 100% grinders dry pecan. Every tool I used is on my stand behind the bust. I figure if one could carve a full size bust of Christ in 2 hours and sell for $90. Tomorrow I will carve MLK in the same manner and Lincoln with out the top hat. I can carve detail when I want to using gouges but for now I am experimenting with speed. You all let me know what you think?

Four hours in seasoned pecan! That's fast carving, but anyone who has ever carved (or tried) seasoned pecan......well, my frien's that is one hard wood and I was using steel burrs, stones just burned it.

A professional chain saw carver (another Cajun) moved into the nearby town of Alpena last summer. She told me that speed is the name of the game if you want to put food on the table.

Good job Don!

Thank you for your comments. Are you of the opinion that carvings sell faster when they are priced at the higher end?

there are people for all prices-- however- i think you just as well do mid to higher end stuff-- one sale will likely net more profit and you have to sell only once- when i go to shows-- most of my stuff is over $100 there is a market for the 5-20 stuff to-- i keep honey on the table ( i have bees) and it sells for 4-12, most time i can pay booth rent from honey sales. xmas ornaments are another deal-- most of mine are under 10. do what works for you--

Very good. That is a lot of progress for four hours. Can't wait to see the other figures.
