chess-sets-dsc00107.jpgIn the past there has been some interest in carving chess sets so I thought I would post some pictures of a few chess sets carved for our annual club carving competetion.

I love that Civil War set. I'll bet that it would bring a pretty penny if sold at a re-enactment.

Wow, I was working on one but it's not quite a elaborate as those. Great job! Any additional posts of others would be welcomed. The name in the Chessboard on the Civil War set is excellent. Sure makes a nice presentation.
Thanks for sharing as I hope it will give me enough inspiration to finish the pawns on mine.

I hope that no one thinks I made those chess sets. They were made by three different clubs as club projects for the show and were in competetion with each other. My only claim to fame is that I did make a couple of the chessmen as I belong to two of the clubs represented here.
There will be another project for our show in Feb. 2008 which will be a depression era sceen. In the past we have had quilts and canes as the themes. If someone would be interested in joining us with this project for the Feb. show let me know and I will give you all of the details.

I like the desert animals against the cactus and the farmers against the cattlemen. Both very original ideas.
