Default Cherry Tree / Blossom (Ryusa Netsuke)

Ive been looking at alot of different Netsuke's lately and really like the work of Natasha Popova.( Her work is just out of this world) So i thought id have a go at making a Ryusa Netsuke. Its carved from a solid piece of rock maple and stained with leather dye. Its my first ever attemped at this style but i plan on doing a lot more.

That is utterly magnificent, Fly.....you are a man of extreme talent in the micro world of carving! That's a very different looking piece, and way too complicated for me at any size! I never tire of looking at your work. It's wonderful!! Bonnie

Hi Richard, what an excellent first try. I know Natasha's work well and agree with you completely. She is in a class all her own. It looks like you are well on your way to making some excellent netsuke of your own.

This is excellent work 'Fly'. I too constantly go and have a look, via the web, at the truly inspiring work of Natasha's. Full credit for attempting that kind of work in rock maple, you're well on your way in spite of using 'lesser materials' they usually use box wood or fossil ivory for that sort of work. You have inspired me to have a try using some rock maple for miniature carving.

Have you tried privet it is very close grained and hard and would probably accept stain well.
