Default Charlotte show was Awsome

I had a great time at the show. Met alot of people. I was great meeting members of this message board, it puts a face with names. The vendors were great and egar to help. "The carvings were fantastic, I must admit, you have to give the judges alot of credit, It must be very hard to decide what place to give a piece. 1st, 2nd and so on. All the carvings I seen were first place in my book. To everyone that entered a carving I say thank you, if it wasnt for your carvings there would be no show. I seen alot of very interesting techniques used from sharpening to carving. A special thanks to Big Dave for showing me step by step on carving a santa ornament.appriciate it. To Mark, Fred and the others, I hope to see you all again at the Statesville show in April. Now its time to go play with my new toys. Keep your tools sharp.

I also just returned from the Charlotte show and must say that it was one of the best so far. It was nice to get to meet some of the newer members of the board like skidmore (forrest of NC) and againstthegrain (Dianna) - who celebrated a birthday this weekend, and fpace (Fred). It was also nice to get to hang out with the gang like Bartster (Bart) and his wife Donna and daughter Madison, Mitch and his wife Paige, Mark Akers and his wife Tina, Mike Sullins and his wife Janice, Big Dave, Arnold Smith and his sidekick Henry (and their wives), Anothony Filetti (who taught me the fine art of sharpening on an arkansas stone--thanks Anthony and Sue for the gift), Groozier (Lance), Jimmy Bates, and Allen Goodman and his wife Tracy.

What a great show!!! I will be posting some pictures later as I am sure some of the other members will be doing also! Congratualations to Mark who won the whittling contest on Saturday and Mitch who won on Sunday! That sure was a lot of fun!!

Blake

WE was coming down but the winter weather was coming in Sat. & Sunday night and it would have been tough coming home over the ridge behind Linville NC so we stayed home. Sure would have loved seeing all of you! Forrest

Had a great time at the show, it was my first one. I got to meet a few guys here, and got some info on the Piedmont Carving Club. I was not able to stay for very long though, my wife was sick, we just found out we are having a baby! The judges did have a hard job I don't know if I could have pick out of all those exquisite pieces. I wish I could have stayed and met more of you guys but this will not be my last show. I did have time to pick up a Denny Knife and a carving glove(tired of the cuts), and got resupplied on basswood.

I got a few choice tools. A Helvie detail knife, 1.5mm v-tool, 3mm v-tool, 1.5mm gouge, finger tape, a couple of books. I could have bought more but funds were limited this time. I wish I had took my camera and took pictures also.
