Default What cha workin on?

Hi Gang,
Been a while...but let's sound off! What are you working on now?

I'm finally going to take the time to tune up the used table saw I bought 2 years ago...starting with getting the blade off. Then I'm going to realign the table, and make sure the saw blade is square to the table and the miter slots. Then I've got to make a new fence.

I'm sick of fighting with it no matter what I do <GRIN>

How about you? What projects (woodcarving or woodworking-related) are you working on?

Best Regards,
Bob Duncan

I'm working on a bison skull, similar to the ones you see in the desert sand.
I'm almost done and let me tell you, the basswood and carving in general is a perfect match for projects that need to represent bone!
I'm looking to mount this on a piece a wood when done so I am looking for ideas for a nice base, if you all have any.
The carving is made from a 4"x4"x6" piece of basswood.
Can't wait to show you guys!
Blessings,
James

I am still working on "Carving Dogs in the Northwest Native Style" - 11" x 25" x 7" poplar wood - but not making much progress because we're traveling cross-country in our RV, presently in Austin, TX. Phil

I love to see this thread revived. I am always amazed at the amount and quality of work going on.
My studio is full of projects. The ones I have on the tables today are:
greenman (not finishe) in basswood
fairy doors...several more of many
celtic knots (more)
the trees that will be across two swinging doors in basswood
the heraldic sign (commissioned) that was just approved to start carving in basswood

I look forward to seeing what's on everyone's tables! Thanks for starting this thread Bob.

Sheet rocking and taping shop and utility closet walls. When finished and painted want to build a new work bench, but with springtime comes yard work and outside stuff. On the woodcarving end I'm carving a basketball player for my 9 year old son. I want to carve his face on it and give it to him. I've been bad and haven't been able to work on it. It's almost roughed out.

My current projects are a sumac cane that is stripped, shaved, and sanded (I can't decide if it needs carved or not), a twisted poplar walking stick that is getting a woodspirit at the top, a dragon (or maybe gargoyle) topper for this years ren fest stick, and lots of yardwork to do before the woman will let me go fishing.

I need to finish some remodeling/painting upstairs. I am trying to finish my hickory cane and my neighbor acquired a handle with blade for a sword cane.... he wants me to make a shaft for it. Trying to do some ornaments in between stuff, but thinking about doing some more caricatures, maybe combined with a mechanical toy. The remodeling and hickory cane are slowing me down!

I said I'll never carve Birds or Caricatures. So what am I working on now well I guess it's a caricature of a bird. I've been working on it for about 6 months on and off. I still have to finish one foot and some feathering, and of courst it has to be painted but "Baby Fat" will be done soon.

I'm trying very hard to force dry a piece of fresh cut wild cherry so I can make a "salt cellar" at my daughter's request. I spend time woodturning, she has been graced with some of my work, she wants something "not round"..Sssssoooo, I cut a limb out of a tree in the woods, put it on the jointer to square it up (YES...WET!!) and bagged it.
When the moisture content drops a little more, I will cut and start hollowing/carving and then slow the drying enough to keep it from cracking...hopefully...

I am not working on much except recovering from this surgery and the pain killers make me a bit dizzy and dangerous, I should say even more dangerous with a knife in my hand, But I do want to get subscribed to this thread so it will be forwarded to my e-mail to remind me to check up on what every one else is workin on.
I am certainly impressed with Paul's "baby fat" bird characature and Cristina's green man and other works. Theyare all super! This gives me so many ideas of what I want to work on when I give myself permission to go to work on something. I will sure be behind in my work and may have to put in 12 hour shifts carving and what could be more fun
