Default Celtic Eagle Condiment Spoon

Here's a small condiment spoon I carved out of a birch dowel. It's about 6" long, and the bowl is about 1" by 1-3/4". The eagle design and my initials on the back are kohlrossed. I carved a bowl hook on the back to keep it from disappearing into the jar.

All comments are welcome.

A nicely carved and pleasingly shaped small spoon. What is 'Kohlrossing'? Google turned nothing up. Is it a form of pyrography?

Thanks, Brent, David and Hoochie Papa.

David, it looks like I misspelled the word. It should be kolrosing. It is the technique of incising a design into a piece of wood with your knife, then rubbing coffee dust (originally coal dust) into the design to make it stand out. Del Stubbs has an excellent page on kolrosing on the Pinewood Forge website.

Very nice! Do you use a special knife for the kolrosing?
