I'll echo Jillsy's comment about accepting a commission. No thanks! I realize that other carvers make a living off of their work so they don't really have much choice but to take what comes at times. When the wolf's at the door your reservations about accepting a certain job might fall away quite quickly. Fortunately, I'm not in that position. I love everything I do. Granted sometimes I'm really glad to see certain jobs finished but even in those cases I reflect on them fondly once their done.

Their reaction to your work will be all worth it. Looking great so far.

Deb, don't be afraid to set it aside for awhile (not a long "while"). Give it a week or two, and don't fret about it, don't even wonder about it. Work on something else that interests you and pleases you. Once you have re-built your carving enthusiasm, pick it up and you'll be surprised to see it in a different light. You'll see what needs to be done, things that are so obvious you won't believe you couldn't see them before. You'll be eager to get after it and see the final result. Give it a chance. Good luck. Dmatis,
I think jillsy has a great idea. I usually don't do commission pieces because if I am not interested to start with then it is difficult for me to find much motivation. I have discovered that time is a great motivotional tool for me at least. I will put it off until I realize I told someone I would have it completed for them by such and such a date. I will do everything in my power to meet that date and havent missed but a couple.

Thanks all. I am going down to my workshop today and will try to get most of the finishing done.

I have promised myself when I get it done I can try an Indian head Bust (like Jeff Phares). So, maybe this will give me motivation.

Thanks for all your advise and similar stories. Sure helps knowing I'm not alone here.
