Default carving wrinkles

I imagine this has been asked before, but I like carving caricatures, and even tho I think they look OK, I am not happy with the way the wrinkles look in the clothing. Is there a simple way of doing this? I use a u gouge or v gouge and sometimes a knife, but they still don't quite look authenic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I do appreciate the posts and carvings I see here on the message board.
Thanks again for all the assistance, Emmett

My advice would be to purchase the book "Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery" by Burne Hogarth. You will learn a great deal and it will help you a lot in your carving. When I teach my Santa carving seminars, I always recommend it to my students. From the feedback I have received, it has really helped them get to the next level in making their carvings "more realistic" and "lifelike". Good luck.

My tried an true method is to use my wife's wooden figure doll with bendable joints. I approximate the position of the carving and drape it with cloth that simulates the clothing I plan to carve and use it as a guide for carving wrinkles.

I've found that I have to carve a lot deeper than I would have done without using the model.
