Nice work! I am new to carving and I would like to make a rose for my wife. Any chance you could pass those instructions along.

I finished my first rose while still there and just finished my second rose (in butternut) a couple of weeks ago. It looks like I'm not the only one who came across this old post and found myself wishing there was more info. I am hoping to do one for my sweetheart this Valentine's Day, but I may just have to stumble along on my own.

If anyone does happen to know a good means of creating petals like this with a rotary tool, please let me know. It would be very much appreciated. =)

Mary May just made a post to her blog about using a Camelia flower as a model for a recent relief carving class. While not a rose, the concept is similar. If you learn to carve this, you could do a rose ... just give it a bit more depth.

See: Mary's post, with pattern and instruction.
See: My interpretation.
