Default carving tiki gods out of palm trunks?

I am looking for any info about carving palm trees. It is not the best wood to carve, I know but I have an abundance and thought some rough looking Tiki's for the back yard would go well with the decor. should I let it dry or carve wet? how can I keep them from falling apart any experience would be appreciated thanks, Clutch.
