Default Carving Shows

Hi Carvers!

I am looking for a littlle help in identifying the largest carving shows throughout North America. These shows can be specializied in a particular subject matter like bird, chip, caricature, human figure or general woodcarving shows.

You know, just large doesn't necessarily mean a 'good' show..lots and lots of very good local shows! I have only been to two unfortunately, Denver and Ft Collins Colo...but both were excellent!

Hi Robb,
Guess it depends on what you consider 'large.' From the midwest, the ones I'm familiar with are the Kansas City (MO) spring show in March and the Wichita and Topeka (KS) ones in March/April. I know the St. Louis (MO/Ill) area has some nice shows. Â* Of course, there's the big one in Davenport, IOWA Â*in June (weren't you there serving ice cream last summer?) Oklahoma City, OK has a pretty good one. Â*THey are all pretty much open to all kinds of carvings. Â*I've been to all of these except the St. Louis ones and enjoyed. Â*I'm on vacation for another week, but if you need names for contacts, let me know and the ones I can't tell you from memory, I'll find when I get home next week.

I just looked on the Colwood Electronics website and there are several other 'big' shows listed on their Calendar of Events.

Topeka Ks has a carving show coming up this November. I find it to be a very enjoyable show. May not be large in some standards but a nice one none the less. Tulsa Ok has one this weekend July 9th,10th and 11th. However, It isn't large and it is Ok but nothing to brag about. Use to be better than what it was last year. Yet, I will be there looking. Rossetters are usually there also and a few other vendors. The best booth last year was Nedra Denison wood burnings and had the pleasure of meeting her and talking with her for quite a while. Enjoyable listening and getting tips from her.

Thank you for the replies and keep them coming. Hi Ho Silver I agree that there are hundreds if not thousands of great local shows throughout North America. It is a great way to bring carvers together not only for the compettitons but also for the camaraderie. We try to do our best in supporting all these shows through door prizes, competition prizes, etc. Unfortunately with our small staff we are not able to attend all these shows but are researching the opportunities of attending some larger regional shows.

P.S.
Show coordinators please e-mail me at rob@foxchapelpublishing.com for further details on how we can support your show.
