Default Carving show results!

Hello All!!
Well I just spent two days in Hog heaven. I was talked into showing and entering my carvings in the Mid-South Woodcarving Exibition ( Huntsville AL). I had re-joined the club there 2 weeks ago after a 4 year hiatus. Anyway I had a great time looking at all the great carvings there ( and somewhat intimadated). There were some nationally known carvers there. (two are in my club, Larry Nix and Riley Monroe) also Cheryl Hamrick. Mac Profitt ( Smokey Mountian Woodcarving Supply).
Since this was the first time I exhibited and entered competion, I was put in the Intermediate class with three carvings ( see pictures) all three won ribbons. "Phillip"-a small woodspirit in a Sycamore branch won 2nd in the fantasy class. Hiram- carved from Catalpa, won 1st on realistic human and best in show for Intermediate. And on a lark I entered a Indian carved in a Basswood Goose-egg in the Caricature class, My own pattern done in Pete LeClaire style. I couldnot bellieve it but he won 1st in class and 3rd best of show in Intermediate. On top of all that I had a wonderfull time visiting meeting most of the carvers there. Oh and befoer I forget, I sold 5 woodspirits and several Ornaments, allowing me to buy tools!!! I love woodcarving, hehe. My new motto is " sell carvings, buy tools!"
This was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time and I am still high from the experiance.
I also met 3 woodcarvers that are in Decatur, (2 are in the Huntsville club) and after the first of the year we are going to start a club here in Decatur, it just doesnt get much better thatn that, now I will have friends to carve with!!!

I stopped by there, as I live very close (in Madison) and was impressed by the variety. I don't recall offhand if I saw your carvings as I was a bit overwhelmed by the people. I didn't realize that there were that many carvers in my area!

Do you have any info on the club in HSV? I may well join, as long as it is informal.

Hey guys thanks for the comments, I am still flying high from the show. And it did give me a great desire to have something carved by next year that might stand a chance of getting a ribbon in the Open competition. I have all kind of Ideas swirling around in my head I want to try. A little success is a great motivator.
George here is a close-up of the Egghead Indian below.
