I have been corresponding, via email, concerning a purchased carving that is in need of repair. The request for assistance came to the Forum in the Author area. I am helping upload the photos. Refer to the thread in the Author area concerning repairs to a crack in a hybiscus root sculpture. Paul Dear Paul, Thank you so much for your response. I will try to get a photo and e-mail it to you. Here are some particulars: the carving is approximately 7" high and 6" wide. the crack starts at the top of the head and extends down the side to the front center of the carving. It is currently 4" long and about 1/16th of an inch at its widest point. Dear Paul, Yes, I was disappointed by the quality of the pictures as well. I will ask Mary to retake them. I was just in Bali in October, so I haven't had the carving very long. I recently had it in my greenhouse window and that certainly has variable temperatures. I noticed the crack before I moved it to that location. And then, I noticed that it had gotten much larger. Last edited by Paul_Guraedy; 06-19-2008 at 08:16 AM. Reason: reference to another post |

Considering the color of the wood I'd suggest using crayons. In our travels we've collected carvings from all different parts of the world made from just about any wood imaginable and that's what we've done. Using wax or a in this case a crayon , if the crack widens or closes the filler can be decreased or increased with no affect on the piece itself. Works everytime!
