Default Carving recycled cigar boxes

For the past year I have been carving designs into discarded wooden cigar boxes. (See photos) Has anyone else out there had experiences with carving old carving cigar boxes?

Wish I knew where to get old Cigar boxes. Now a days they just seem to come in a cardboard box. I must be smoking the cheap ones LOL

By the way, great looking carvings

I've heard of people doing this but have not seen any before now. Those are very nice.

Wow! Those are really wonderful! I have never done any relief carving and have only "practiced" chip carving so this is way beyond my skill set.

how cool! I've heard of people making banjos out of 'em, but never carving them. And, I do enjoy the good ones that come in a wooden box!

It's been many years since I've seen wooden cigar boxes, but then I don't smoke.
Great looking boxes!

Steve,
I'm fortunate enough to live very close to a Cigar International Superstore. They put all their discarded cigar boxes into a huge crate by the door. Believe it or not, they sell them for a buck a piece, 10 for $6. Some are crumby for carving, but others have nice thick tops of beautiful hardwoods. I suggest you check out all your local cigar stores and ask what they do with their discarded boxes.
