![]() This is a go chess board. This one has painted lines. I want to make one myself, but instead I want to carve the lines. And my only tool is a wood burning pen and a metal straight edge. ![]() ![]() I want to know can these results of these 2 pictures be achieved with a wood burning pen and a metal straight edge....i.e. evenly nearly perfectly straight lines. And do you think that these lines of the 2 pictures were done by a wood burning pen? After I carve the lines with the wood burning pen, do I still have to paint it or would it be dark enough? Thanks Last edited by eulnuj; 05-16-2010 at 01:47 PM. |

A little practice with a sharp chip carving knife and straight lines are really not too difficult.. Easy for me to say (LOL) since I've been doing it a while. Bill K.

| None of the boards in the pictures are mine. I'm about to make one. |

I would practice on a scrap piece and see for myself. Seems do-able. Looks to me like they are woodburned, but I couldn't say for sure.

I thinks that I would try to incise a line with a knife and straight edge, then follow the line with a burner. That should give you a pretty distinct line without any further work. I burned a small sign using a steel straight edge and burner, and the problem is that the steel acts as a heat sink and cools the burner tip fairly quickly. It was very difficult to burn the line with any consistency. |

I would take my straight edge and a sharp blade and score my line, then score it right beside that then right beside that, then chissel out with a V tool
