Hi Zack! Those plastic tubs with lids, like steralite or rubbermaid are good for storage and fairly cheap. The blue plastic tarps are pretty reasonable and come in all kinds of sizes for covering your bed, computer, etc. or go to a thrift store and get old sheets or maybe your mom has some old ones.
If you're making dust, at the very least, tie a bandanna around your nose and mouth. Not the greatest for keeping dust out of your lungs, you can even wet it and wring it out real well and that will keep some dust out.
If you are in parts of Wyoming that doesn't have many trees for found wood, try yard sales and thrift shops for old furniture you can dismantle. I've got some decent pieces of oak for carving that way. Sometimes people throw out old furniture, so you might get some free wood that way.
A good sharp pocket knife goes a long way or did when I was your age, now I'm a tool junkie!
All I had for years for a carving space was my kitchen counter and outside if it wasn't raining. Good thing I'm not a clean fanatic! smile!
Any way, sounds like you are bound and determined to carve and that's great! Good for you for working and carving!
Sounds like you have a good imagination, you will go far!

You all have great advise thank you, it really is nice to have support just starting out as around here i dont got much. Im apparently depressed because im always in my room, but all im doing is something im really starting to enjoy.i just bought a book, 'wood carving basics" , by david sabol. Does anyone know if its a good, proper book? Im building a cabnet type storage thing out of cardboard(lots) and hot glue(LOTS)to hold all my stuff. The cardboard is all free cuz its from work and its recycling so i fel good. Its turning out pretty well. Looks like crap but closed just looks liie a box and will serve the purpose well.(also a chair level to my nigt stand. I have a oldtimer schrade i got for 12 at kmart so it was a little cheaper with my discount and a little let from there. And a3 piece chisel set from home depot, it works good but goes dull fast i have a few decent sharpeners bu no strop. So continually on the oil stone, just a 2 sided one from the depot. I do have the dremel 100 but holy cow it rotates fast! To fast for my preferace with most applications. I lik powercarving alot to tho so a air filter is a must and what i made didnt do well so i dunno. Not too sure yet what kind of carving i want to specialize in yet but i dont want to be limited to one type so i want to get proficient across the board. I want to carve diy type cool projects though. I have always loved building and modding stuff to make it better or just flippin awesome. People andanimals have always stumpped me BBAD! Ive had many artwork in shows and displays but my "alive" things look like a 5 year old did them. And ive tried 100000s of times. So i kinda want to stay away from tht stuff while im learving the basics just to prevent my fear from making me give up or think i suck at carving when really its that. Right now im hollowing out a piece of wood for a ashtray/insense holder with somethong else i dunno whattjo to fill up the spare room. Just started that recently. I want to woodburn to, my cuz just bought me one althoiugh he still has it. (Wow i got alot to say) i think i like it enought and there is sooo much to do and learn i wont be limited by mastering it! Plus i wouldnt mind extra money, for luthier school. Igotta pay my own way so it would help! I would use wood from oldstuff but with power carving lots of dust and treated wood was wayy bad for you i read somewhere. What are some hotselling items to carve that sell well? That are simple but achallenge (not snowmen) haha ya ive beenfollowing sincechristmas time. And does anyone here have any discounted uses tools i could buy off them, gouges, knifes, supplies anything that would help me get going im willng to pay money for what its worth just not overpriced retail. anything whether it be a book, a floormat, anything u dont want that u think could help me out. Well ive wrote too much thanks and nice metting u all!
Zack
