Default Carving Miniatures

Has anyone here ever carved miniatures? It seems alot harder than carving normal sized pieces. Just wondering your experiences and difficulty level.

This is right up Mitchell's alley! My experience is that you are correct in miniature being harder.

Jill, her is three that I carved, you notice the dime in the picture.
One of a Ram, a Rino and the other is an elephant. The elepant is about 1/ 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/1/2 inchs. I will have to see if I have any pictures of the cowboy boots which I know one is about 1/2 inch tall and about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.

Mitch is the expert on carving minatures. I saw him carve a mini-fireman in an hour and a half and it was unbelieveable. He has won in that category many times. Very detailed work!

I do like to carve miniatures. Mostly caricatures, but I've done a few realistic carvings - well, close to realistic.

Anyway, I don't know if I'd go as far as "expert", but I appreciate the compliments.

After you do a few, they get "easier". The trick is to get the proportions right and not try to overdo the details.

Oh yeah, have a good sharp knife and good eye sight.

Mineature what? All I carve are mineatures! But it really depends on how small you consider small.

Now, wouldn't it be something to see you carve a fullsize of those things you carve the best, Bob?

Come to think of it, where the heck would you put it?

Miniatures are demanding. Even making something as simple as a spoon, when working with a piece of wood less than an inch long, can be rough. Funny thing. Even though miniature carving takes as much time as a full size, people expect to pay less for it.

Here's one from the gallery. It fit's into a 2" cube. All one piece except for the cigarette.
