I have lots of Flexcut tools and I really like the gouges, the knifes are another thing. Although I own them all I really dont like them and dont use them much. I have tried teh Carving Jack but dont own one either. I dont like the way it feels in my hand and for the money I would rather have a set of other tools.

I wasn't impressed with the carving Jack. That will be one Flexcut I will reframe from buying. I thought it over price also. What I do like about it is several tools in one and portable but for $129.00, Ill buy other tools. Not putting it down as I know several on this board likes it but it isn't for me.

Merry CHRISTmas to all.

Question Re: Carving Jack By Flexcut ?

yep for that price $130
about 9 or 10 Ramelsons
about 9 or 10 Flexcuts (11 piece Flexcut travel set for $90 10 tools 1 handle)
about 6 or 7 Taylors
about 5 or 6 Stubai
about 5 to 7 Denny

quite a few books and patterns
lots of burrs for my Dremel or Welcher

10 or 12 Murphy carving knives

maybe 5 or more of the Helvie carving knives

Wow, Ed what do you give the Son-in-laws you do like? And can I get on your naughty list? I won't support a product that discriminates. To charge more to lefthanders for a product is discrimination. I seriously doubt it cost more to make a lefthanded carving jack. I seriously question the difference between a left and right handed blade, knife, gouge, or v-tool. Why are there no such creatures as lefthanded screwdrivers, hammers, or saws. It's a conspiracy I tell ya and it won't stop there. Soon it will be left-handed wood............

Question Left handed

Ed does not discriminate
He does not like either of son in laws

Actually some manufacturers do have
left handed
right handed
general use

I think the difference in the laef handed and right handed are they are only sharpened on 1 side
1 side of the blade for right handers and opposite side unsharpened
the sharpened and unsharpened sides are opposite for left handers

the general us is what most every one uses
it is sharpened to the same angle on each side

If I am wrong please some one correct me

I like my knives sharpened on each side

I have a fillet knife that is only sharp on 1 side
I just lay the flat side down and cut away
I just swing the fish around if I want to use the other hand

Basketball - Being as how you asked; I felt that if I gave one something I needed to give the other one something also. He'd be lusting over this stainless .357 mag with a 4" barrel that I had, so being as how I rarely used it, preferring the .44 mag, I gave it to him. That's the good part of the story. The bad part is about three months ago, one of divorce things happened and he ain't my son-in-law anymore. And he was the one I liked!

I think the Mini-tool set from Cape Forge is a lot more useful and no where near as costly. www.capeforge.com.

Thanks Guys, I ended up buying a "Case Seahorse knife" and it's really great!
When I head for the woods it will be in my pocket along with a couple of gouges. Mike
