| I’m looking at buying “Carving the Head in the Classic European Tradition” by Martin Geisler-Moroder. I want to read about the techniques and carving style. I am intrigued by the stages of carving and the use of geometric planes to set up the proportions of the face and head as shown in the article, “Carving in the European Style" in WCI's Summer 2006 issue. Anybody have this book or any thoughts on the subject? Thanks!

I think the book is amazing, I'm actually so impressed by it that I'm planning a trip to Austria to study their techniques. I'm especially interested in their ability to sum up all the facial features into a few simple geometrical planes which is very important when trying to locate complex facial features. I've been carving faces since I was 16 for the past 10 years. Its an intriguing hobby, if your interested I'll tell you a bit about what I've learned. |

Wow, I was looking at all the carvings you've done. I was very impressed especially with your wood spirits! Do you do this proffesionally or is it just a side hobby for you? |
