Use the end cut of a fine grained wood and sandblast it to raise the grain?

I have seen some guys posts saying they used green scourer pads to imitate grass?? Me personally, I would sinply leave the rasp marks on a base piece, then stain it the colour I wanted. I don't know if this helps or not. Other carvers on this forum are bound to come up with a ton of better suggestions.Joe.

I use medium rough sawdust...and wood glue. When dry I stain it with a dark water down green/black then add light green up to dry brushing lime green on it.

I used a piece of green felt for the green on a golf scene.

I gotta know the story behind your moniker "Laughing Dachshund". We had a weiner dog for while, but I've never seen a laughing weiner dog.

Hey...that would make a good carving!

I did this a while back and it's not the best grass. However you can carve it in tufts with a V gouge. If you have it overhang the base a bit it gives it a nice look.

Good luck,
Dan.

By the way this was what I thought a golf ball must feel like just before the club hits it...

I get a nice effect by painting a surface with white glue and covering it with shavings from a pencil sharpener. If you want it to be thicker than you get on the first attempt, you can paint more glue right over the top of it and add more shavings.

garden supply house..coir mat...I think it is coconut husk, used for lining open weave/metal flower baskets. You can buy a precut piece or as loose fill...

taxidermists use a product called excelsior (used for making small animal/bird body replicas), also called wood wool, kinda looks like very coarse steel wool only it's wood...got a taxidermist close??

know any woodturners close by?? they can "spin" you some medium fine coils of wood
