Default carving a giraff head in found wood

I recently found a tree trunk and limbs that have the shape of a giraff. Wierd I know but I would like advice on what type of wood I could carve his head out of. My find stands about 9 foot tall so I will need a good size chunk of wood to carve. And it will be outside. Any suggestions? Thanks Rita

Nine feet tall?! Wow. I can't wait to see him.
Wouldn't some more found wood make a good head? Can you just search around to find a good hunk?
Maybe someone has a pile of fire wood? Can you search through that?
Good luck!!

Hello Rita, Let me see if I got you straight you have a log that looks like a giraffe except the head? The wood should be the same wood as the rest. I think you can make use of the cuts from the body but if you plan to paint any wood will do.

Take a picture of the wood for us and also if your going to attatch a head I would make sure that is was a little lighter wood. But then again that may look odd see if you can find a piece of wood the same as the stump.
