I belong to three local carvings clubs here in the Buffalo NY area and only one has a web site. My question is, I believe that many local clubs don't have a web site pressence, giving them a place to show some pics, membership, give carving info, local events, etc., etc,. Web sites cost money, and most clubs don't have the money to put towards the running of a web site. In fact, most clubs members are retired, but active carvers. Since we support 'Wood Carving Illustrated', do you think 'Fox Publishing' through the use of their web site size, would think about allowing the various carving clubs to attach a web site to theirs in some simplified manner. I'm not talking about just a 'link' but help & assistance to get a web site pressence, even if its an attachment to www.carvingworld/__________ like what alot of us do with the picture trail site. This would help bring a bunch of carving clubs together in one central web focus/formate, like a large carving club community. Looking for thoughts / ideas / comments / suggestions? Coffeeman |

Coffeeman, These days it can be very simple and inexpensive to have a web site. I use Yahoo Geocities to host my site. It is 8.95 per month and you don't need any html knowledge to build it. It is all done using their templates, backgrounds, ect... it's all done with your mouse, typing on your keyboard and uploading pictures from your digital camera. Ask around your club...there is more than likely someone who likes to 'play around' with their computer who would have a blast setting one up. Greg |

Bill I think that you hit the nail on the head most of the carvers in the clubs are getting on in years (myself included) and either do not have computers or are intimidated by them. That is why most clubs do not have a site ours included. As for inexpensive costs on geocities that is fine and good but the pop ups are out of this world. I like your idea of being able to link to the Fox Chapel site with carving clubs, not only would it be good for the clubs but also good advertising for Fox Chapel. How about it BobD what are your thoughts on this one. Colin

There are 1000's of free web hosting sites (search google for free hosting). Also most ISPs (where you get your internet service from) provide free web space. I host my own website on one of home computers! The free sites provide easy to use programs to build your site(s). Need help, just ask! |
