Question Carving Baby Toys

My older brother and his wife will be having a baby boy in Febuary, and I would like to hand carve some toys for them a possible christmass gift. Does any one have any plans or patterns that I could use I would like to make rattles and such, I plan to make some rattles on the wood lathe as well. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions they will be apreciated greatly, thanks in advance.

Hey Keoma I had thought you might have some plans, and I have ahammer from when I was a babyBaby. Didn't think of teethers or pull toys, I know my dad plans to make a mobile that is fishing tackle without the hooks of course.
Thanks,
Carl

I gave my sone a fishing Birthday when he was I think 4. I attatched wooden fish and carved wooden hooks...then I hung them from our ceiling fan in the living room. The fish were on spinners so the twisted and turned with the fan. It was a lot of fun. Ha- I still have them in the closet

Carl, When my nephew was born I made him blocks that spelled out his name, each block a different letter. I used 2x2 basswood, and I had letter stencils from a sign making kit, you could also print out letters from your computer. I did each letter in relief, then painted.

Carl,
Try looking at Little Shavers Wood Carving Supply under whittling and whimseys. Rick has quite a few options.

Carl,
Maybe something like the attached would fit the bill. Make it big enough to not get swallowed and it will rattle and twist as much as the baby wants. Make it out of hardwood so it won't break apart when it gets thrown around LOL.
Good luck.
