Default Carving article

Hello, I was wondering if anyone out there can send me a copy of the following item:

Tom Hindes' 5-Minute Wizard (featured in WCI Summer 2008, Issue #43)

If so, my e-mail is smartin16@gmail.com

I am new to carving and to the forum and would love to get a copy of this item to read and study subject matter as it seems that might be a good place to start.

If not that, any help on the subject of carving little faces or people as a beginners program would be great.

Thanks for any help or suggestions rendered.

Shawn

Shawn: that article is copyrighted so it would be illegal to scan it and send to someone else. If you go to here: Woodcarving Illustrated Issue 43 Summer 2008 you can buy a copy of the magazine with all the articles in it.

So you can buy just the articles or the entire magazine? I was not sure about that. Thanks for the info.

You have any suggestions on such carvings. I want to get a good base of carving faces so I figured that would be a good place to begin practicing.

Again, thanks

Shawn

Look around in the beginner forum for MANY suggestions.

Or search using "carving faces" as your key words.

Shawn:
I don't believe you can order just the article. Get the magazine, you'll enjoy it!
I learned how to carve one of those 5-Minute Wizards from watching a video by Gene Messer. I tried to follow the magazine but that wasn't working. I found the exact wizard being carved by Gene in YOUTUBE. He's got a bunch of videos there but better yet just look here under VIDEOS (on the left hand side of the page). You'll find lots of great stuff there.
Have fun!

Gene Messer has a very good video tutorial of that 5-minute wizard. He goes step-by-step, and you get so see every cut. The first video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9sObqxmYJY

From there you can navigate to the other videos in the series.

I linked a few other good beginner projects (I found them helpful when I was first starting out) in my blog post: http://blog.mischel.com/2009/10/30/g...what-to-carve/
