Default "Carvin' Jack"

Just got my latest MDI sale catalog and it has a new hook knife from flexcut (left or right handed) and the new carvin' jack carving knife...its 105.00....expensive, but sure would like to have one, would be great traveling or just to carry with you wherever! Also saw a new book, at least new to me on caricatures by Dave Stetson...about carving a caricature from head to toe...sounds pretty good! In Denver the carving club had a library, extensive, that you could check books out from....sure wish there was something here like that...it gets too expensive to buy all the books that would be good to read and look at!

Does MDI have a web site that shows the new stuff? I know what you mean about the books. There are a ton of them that I would like to look at.

Gentlemen, we can't wait til Christmas to get a users testimonial on this Carvin Jack from Flexcut. I know you all live by the 'He who dies with the most tools wins' but that is when you are doing the buying. Gift tools are extra special and it would be sad to waste this Christmas on this visually exciting new tool, if it isn't as wonderful as we hope it is. Someone has to volunteer to buy one this week and tell us about it first hand, not website or catalog or full page ad info but real chips and cuts. Who will take one for the team? Who will be the leader among men and take the plung hopefully leading us into the promised land of truely portable carving. We need to know, Christmas lists are due to spouses and families ASAP.
Ah Chip

Can't remember who made them, but this has been done before (admittedly (sp?), long ago).

For the same $105 you can buy a dozen or so ramelson straight handled tools which roll up nicely into about a 3' roll (with a couple carving knives thrown in). With this set up you can do regular carving and light mallet carving with no compromises and still maintain decent portability.

If you want real portability, get a good three bladed pocket knife and modify one of the blades into a chisel. Cost <$30.

Not to be sexist, but, ummm, ladies.... I think there's a lesson to be learned here.....somewhere. These guys are trying to show us how to shop.

Think I'll try this line sometime too. I can just hear it now....'Really, honey, I just bought it for the TEAM'S sake--I couldn't let them down. They were counting on me!'

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing, guys!
Donna T (willing to learn from the 'masters')

(But perhaps you're right--it might not work for us either!)
