I think some of you people are softer at heart than you'd like to let on!!!

I think in general, woodworkers are very willing to give...advice, tools we don't use, samples of wood or tools we really like and want to share with others...WOW.

My parents live across the state, and came down this weekend for a late Thanksgiving. We were going around the table telling what we were most thankful for, and I said my job, because it gives me more time to spend with my family (before this, I was selling life insurance 7 days a week ) But I've also realized that I'm thankful that I met all of you. You are inspiring not only in your chosen arts, but also as people who just give so much. Thank you all!!!

I'm not sure you realize what a wonderful service you provide! I live in a part of Western New York where there is mainly chainsaw and birdcarvers, and I am not one of them. And since there is not a body of work close enough that would provide me with the information I desire, this forum is one of the best tools I have in my bag!!! It provides me information on just about every subject related to woodcarving I would like and is supplemented by what I now believe to be the premiere carving magazine out there (after having suybscribed to several.

I do have to agree that the folks frequenting this forum I am truly grateful for, since I can get every take on a subject I could possibly want and more. For that and this board I am truly grateful!

...so when you wax poetic about us members please keep in mind that the feeling is mutual (even when we are busting your stones!! )

I share Rocket's seniments or is it sediments (rock). We all carve for different reasons. I've been losing my full-time job for the past year and the final days are certainly near. I'm lucky that I found an interest to carve and I can focus on something productive. I've seen my improvement over the past year. It's great to be meet good people, get advice, and view inspirational work without leaving the dining room. Both carving magazines are great magazines but the interaction on this board has been a value in holding my carving interest.

I don't care if I never make a penny on a carving. I needed a mental outlet. I'm getting a little old to play ball everyday and you can't golf everyday. But I can carve a little everyday.

Ken, I can understand the job status, Watch my company merge with several others over the years and wondered if and when, so I beat then to the punch, I took their early retirement and their 2 year severance, Been gone a year now and do not regret it on ounce. Best of luck with yours and yes, during those times carving releived a lot of stress.

Well BobD...this board is somewhat like the computers we use to access it...(GI/GO). Garbage In/Garbage Out is the usual way those initials are interpreted but it can also mean Good In/Good Out. This board is as others mentioned a priceless resource...everyone contributing, whether it is just an encouraging word or helpful hint on technique or a URL that opens whole new worlds of possibilities...Thanks for doing what you do!

Thanks for the kind words. I am thankful for this board and the wonderful, kind people who inhabit our little 'cyber community'. Being a member here has helped me grow as a carver and also as a person. It is also very nice to have an active admin who shows an interest in us and our work.
