Default Carved stars

Here's a neat little trick that I have expanded on over the past few years..well I had some unscheduled time off work (medical leave) so what does a woodcarver do when he can't go to work?..he can still carve...I got busy and carved up some of these little guys..they are about 3/4 -1" cubes to start and then you draw an X all the way around..and start chipping down to the center of the X..and then stop and turn it around..keep going around and you have yourself a carved star..make small chips as you go and it will come ..take your time with it..Rome was not built in one day..LOL Bill#1 P.S. the second star is made of cherry..all hand carved in about 6hrs..at the auto races in the evenings..several years ago...

Bill - those are great .....
How on earth do you "know" where the center of each X is?
How do you carve something as thin as each part?

I know I wouldn't have the patience to carve those from Cherry. You did it in 6 hours I figure it would take me 6 days.

Very interesting carvings, Bill. The cherry star is actually two nested tetrahedrons. Tetrahedrons are geometric solids with four faces.

You may be interested in this "star," done in relief, that is three nested cubes. This is from the "Waterfall" by M.C.Escher. The other tower in this figure features three nested tetrahedrons.

These particular stars I carved are made from pine..I have done them in basswood and they do rather well...I like them too..I was given some cutoffs from a lumber mill...they worked great...Thanks for the compliments..Bill#1
