| While washing some clothes and watching football yesterday,I cleaned up some old buttons I had and carved the bigger one. Its 1 3/8 inches and the carved grist mill inside is 1 1/8 inches. The two smaller buttons are 7/8 will carve them later. Hard to see in the picts but theres mtns behind the old mill. It was hard carving something that would fit around the two large holes in the big button. Course they have holes in them for the tread. Oh yea I wash dishes and all of our clothes around here and at times it brings back some old memories washing all of our clothes at the laundry mat. Id take my 3 little children with me as I washed thier clothes and all the rest of our clothes. They love'd tumbling in the dryers! Yea my 2 daughters liked being in one dry holding hands as they flipped over and over where as my son would tried to drank a coke when fliping in his dryer alone. Boy they had fun till it stopped! Another dime daddy they would shout through the glass doors! They had fun! Your thoughts are always welcome. Button for me and two for you, hope you liked the carved one too! Forrest

I dont know what I like more about you Forest, your carving painting or your stories.. anyways as fer memories it really hit home with this one as thats how my mom washed me as a small child in the summer... Id get to dirty to be in the wash tub so she would toss me into the ringer washer, but i must admit i was glad when i got to big to fit through the ringer...it smarts a little

Hey Forrest remember those ole buttons,we used to put a string threw the holes and get it spinning pulling the looped ends, just dont get in your brothers hair youll get a whupping. Thats a big scene for a button but a very goodun like the boulders in front gives it alot of depth. That come off a womens long coat? Youll be getting orders. Take care Ole Friend. Curt

Dwayne, I almost lost my right hand helping my grandmother when my hand almost got caught in the ringer on her old tub washing machine. Wish I had a old one like that now,Id put a wood top on it making me a small carving area.Plus rake the chips in the tub of it. The good ole days are just that, that had to be good, its all we had but its better now! SHhhhhhhhhhhhh dont tell my wife ok?? But I put her old cat in the dryer and boy does she get fluffy! talking about static!! You can rub the cat and hes glows in the dark! Life is tuff .......got to go load up some more snuff. Forrest

Forrest, I like it. That is a lot of detail in such a small area. I use feel like Dwayne, not sure what I liked best between all you bring to the forum, Now I just come to realize, you can't have one without the other. The carvings and painting themselves tell a story, but your words give the interpretation. Well once again thanks for sharing. Safe Carving and God Bless, Mark |

Forrest, If Curts right and that did come off a womans coat and you start getting a bunch of orders, just make sure those buttons are off the coats before you start carving or at least the gals aren't still wearing them, I bet they wouldn't find it near as funnt as the rest of us would. Mark |

Curt you are so right?? Getting orders?? My wife gives me a bunch of thems every morning and a list of new honey do's every day before she leaves for work!! I've spun buttons and tops too! I could throw on a spining top and bust yours with mine. A fact. Love tossing washers too and with a nail in a stick and a metal ring off a barrel I would push it as my little car. First bike I got it was a big one,Id jump off the steps on the porch to get on it and offfff Id go till I hit something and fell over! You think I had too many falls as a young boy?? I just might have?? LOL But theres one thing bouts me cause I dont care and and its 5' here this moring and I have on 6 pairs of un-d-wares! Thanks Curt!! What you too know about living in the country and Dwayne too. Money cant buy my old memories! Forrest

I think you did fall off your bike too many times Forrest. Otherwise, how would you come up with all of these off the wall ideas? I guess as long as something is made out of wood, you are going to carve it. Button, button, who's got the button? Now we know. Nice job, Tom |
