Default carved Baseball

Last wk end me and my wife wanted a few items that the stores here in our little town dont have. So we drove to the bigger town close to us to pick up a few needed things.

Once in a store,Id tell my wife,I will be back in a min. Course returning with nothing in my hands. This went on in two more stores we was in,then she asked, honey what is it you are looking for?? Dumb looking I said,A baseball.

Im not a big baseball fan to tell the truth, she knew that also for I like football better. She smiled and said, Ohhhhhhhhhhhh No! I said,Yeap Im going to try in carve this baseball??

Id carved a golf ball earlier and thinking to myself,Man this baseball will be a snap but after looking ckn it out last wk end I had to figure what areas on it I might try to carve in it so Wed I started on it. Well the leather cover I thought was just sewed on,course it was glued too~ I knew right then, this is going to be more than I thought I could do. This is a official size baseball.

But like I heard back when I was a 12yrs old boy,Forrest- Keep your eye on the ball. I must amit,it was alot harder than carving a golf ball plus carving it deeper , it then took alot longer to paint,I had to paint 3 sides to every baseball figure on it. All in all,it was {kinda} fun- LOL

I carved this ball for someone,he wont even know what it is for maybe 10 more years or maybe sooner?? Its for my new grandson in Memphis,he will be 8 months old in Dec. Knowing his mother,my youngest daughter will save this baseball for him. I know she will.

I will make a base or some type of holder for it and get a glass or plactic baseball box from a craft store to place it in before we go down to Memphis at Christmas time.

Theres four different scenes,a batter,a player tagging another player out,a pitcher and a player siding into home plate, the umpire calling him out.

I hope you enjoyed this carved baseball and please feel free to comment or make any input you like. I appreciate your thoughts.

thanks again, Forrest

Forrest,

Not only have you captured carving and baseball in one spectacular carving, but you created a Grand Slam, too! Bravo!

Gene I dont know either if any one has carved a baseball before,it was alot more fun than the basketball, soccer and volly ball Id tried to carve before. Once I planted a knive blade in them, all of a sudden Id get hit in the face, thats when I got me a catchers mask! And then then the I-D, hit me,hey carve a baseball! Hahheeeee It was fun but really took more time than I thought to carve this baseball but it was fun after all. I always appreciate your thoughts Gene and thank you for your support my friend.
