Default Capt.Tater

Last week before going to the carving show,I have alot of old sticks in my shop outside. This one Id skinned down{removed the bark} maybe 2 yrs ago. Its hard Maple with knots and groves in it. I carved down the handle and cut me some finger groves to fit my hand. It was too steap to get much right in the front of my hand so I carved a old sea captain and from the looks of his eyes,he might have taken a few drinks every day! lol

Just something simple to do before leaving for the out of town carving show. Know he might have needed to be placed in another area than general but Im use to posting things here.Needs to be moved please do so,thks.

Hes 2 wide X 3 inches long.

Hes captain Tater. Trying to get back in the grove today of carving and posting.

Hope you like him and your thoughts as always are welcome.

Thks' Forrest

Very nice, Forrest. Always wanted to do a walking stick, never could figure out how to remove the bark and leave the stick..... Always like your work.

Forrest... I've got a couple of poplar sticks just about that same configuration. I ought to drop them off and let you paint up a whole crew! You know how poplar grows. It almost always comes out of the ground with a natural curve.

Eddy my friend, this maple was crazy with a big knot where the now handle is.I could have cut down the handle area more but it would have weaking the handle. I use it backwards. I like creating walking sticks and canes,I have them standing in all the corners in this room and a few prize ones put up. I made Connie a Hickory cane 2 year ago,I need to carve it now!! You know its like a painter,he paints every ones house but doesnt paint his! I'll get to it hope soon!

Thanks my Fla/Tenn buddy for your thoughts here!

Forrest

PS; feeling better today and I when feel that pressure, pop the pill under my tongue.

great stick from a great carver. Forrest that stick has so much character. To me when I look at that stick it is like that is all that could have been carved in it. Nothing else would have fit on that stick. Great job as are all you creations Forrest thanks for sharing him with us. Made me realize that I have to finish up my diamond willow stick I started over a year ago.
