I'm about ready to throw in the towel.....since my supplier of bass wood has died, I've had to resort to buying wood from an out of state provider....but he doesn't have wood in long pieces. Oh, sure, he can laminate it together.....but then so can I. I just don't like to have to mess with laminating stuff.....ISN'T THERE ANY other wood supplier that still sells big chunks?? Like 8 inches wide, 8 inches thick, by three feet long. |

Without a glue up I think it's the 8" thick that's going to be hard to come by. Not much help I know, but why chase wild geese if you know they're wild geese? Russ |

Dull Knife, I might be remembering wrong, and its worth a call to Dale Heinecke to find out, but I think he only sells basswood up to 4 inches thick. I'm pretty sure that's what he told me a year or so ago when I called him and tried to order some 6 inch thick wood. I think it probably has to do with the size of basswood trees that are available. You don't want the heartwood of the tree, so the thickness has to come from an outer portion of the trees radius, which requires a very large tree. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, his site is as follows. I couldn't make the link work within this message, but you can type it in. I've provided his phone number also. Good luck! http://www.heineckewood.com/ Phone: (715) 822-8642 Dan C. |
