Question cane length

Hey People,
My better half was down at the local drugist and she told him I carve. He said he has a tall customer that he can't buy a commercially available cane tall enough for.
The question is how do i measure him to make sure the cane is the proper height. I have yet to meet the guy and don't know what style of handle he prefers yet.
I've always done it so the cane reaches the bend in the wrist.
I apoligize for having gone so long between posts my company has kept me burn'n up the highway these past 6 months.
thanks in advance for any advice
macktruck

A good idea is to start a little LONGER than the break inthe wrist, and have the person try the cane at that lenght. Then start cutting 1/2' to 1" off till they are comfortable using it. That takes a little more "personal" time, but eliminates any complaints down the road. I've used this method for several canes that I've made, and carry a small hobby saw in my carving box. This has been used to cut to length several other canes sold by other carvers at shows.

I make them to the crease in the wrist, its the perfect height and doesn't take very much at all above or below that length to make the cane uncomfortable.
