Can I sell....

Hi to All

I found myself in a conversation the other day which raised a question that I could not answer. Perhaps someone on the message board can provide some insight. Here is the question...

"If I carve a project from a pattern that is published in a magazine (or other copyrighted publication) am I able to place the carving up for sale. If so, do I need to acknowledge the creator or copyright holder in some way?"

What do you think?

Sure you can sell it. As for giving credit you are under no obligation to do so but from an ethical standpoint you ought to.

If you have a buyer and want to sell, feel free to do so. Agree with Lynn, give credit where credit is due.

I agree. You carved it; you can sell it. If you think the pattern was helpful to you, then by all means acknowledge it because it's a nice thing to do. You could say "my hand-carved thing; idea inspired by xxxxxxxx" or other words to that effect.

Thanks for your input, it is what I was thinking. Working in the higher education industry giving credit when credit is due is a way of life.
